Mako Mako everywhere

Sorry to my German readers for three posts in a row...but sometime you just have to.

Just now, I read an interesting article on telepolis about the Happy Birthday song being copyrighted, and a campaign called Unhappy Birthday to fight that. I read through their page, which was sufficiently short, and thought by myself: Nice idea. But then, at the very end of the page, I read "mako@atdoc.cc", thinking "could it be", and further "Benjamin Mako Hill". For my non-debian readers: Mako is a core guy from debian, Canonical employee (the company that backs Ubuntu) and is active for SPI, the non-profit legal body in the US behind Debian. And obviously, he is one with a lot of time.

Anyways, good luck with Unhappy Birthday, Mako.

Update: As Daniel Stone told me in a comment to this post: Mako is no longer an Canonical employee, but works at MIT labs. Even cooler!

Mako no longer works for Canonical; he now works doing some very, very cool stuff (e.g. the $100 laptop) for the MIT Media Lab. He announced this on his blog back in August or so.

Oh, I didn't know that. That is cool.

I once tried to join a similar project (http://www.jhai.org/jhai_remoteIT.htm) but they did not answer.
